Timi Dakolo signs record deal with Virgin EMI

Timi Dakolo, Nigerian soul singer, has signed a record deal with Virgin EMI, a UK based record label.

The 38-year-old songwriter took to his his Instagram page on Monday to break the news.

This deal with EMI/Virgin/Universal was not just made possible and executed by industry boss, Efe Ogbeni, he also managed Timi’s new Christmas Album project.

According to internal sources, after EMI heard the Humberto Gatica and Frederic Gassita produced Christmas album which was recorded in Los Angeles, London and Budapest, they were blown away and very drawn to the project. This project is already bringing good tidings as Timi is now an artiste under the Virgin EMI Records and part of the Universal family.

Currently, the label operates two A&R and marketing streams in Virgin Records and EMI Records respectively.

At some point, EMI was the biggest record label in the world behind Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music. Virgin Records was founded by Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nick Powell and Tom Newman.

Timi Dakolo releases new single; ‘The Vow’ as he celebrates his 5th Wedding Anniversary

Nigeria’s king of soul; Timi Dakolo releases his new single ‘The Vow’ to celebrate his 5th Wedding Anniversary on March 31, 2016.

For the third single off his forthcoming album ‘Love And Consequences’; Timi Dakolo teamed up again with Cobhams Asuquo to produce another record that oozes love, promises and deep emotions.

“It’s been 5 years of learning and loving with my wife. I believe there is no better time to release this single and video than now. I call it my gift to her and I want the world to share it with me and their special one”

Nigeria’s king of soul, Timi Dakolo releases first single in 2015 ‘Wish Me Well’

Nigeria’s king of soul, Timi Dakolo has announced the release of his second single ‘Wish Me Well’ off his forthcoming album – Love and Consequences.

Timi Dakolo draws inspiration for this single from his days as a young boy in Port Harcourt just before West African Idols, going through the harsh events of life. “I have had it bad, from days with no money to pay my school fees, having to survive by selling pure water, pushing wheelbarrows for money, it has been tough. I remember when Idols came calling, I knew this was my opportunity to make it, I picked my bags and moved to see what would happen. I was scared, but if I didn’t, I wonder where I would be.”

The song which has a melodious play of several instruments and strong vocal delivery was a result of another collaboration with iconic Cobhams Asuquo. Moving from the highlife tune of Iyawo Mi, this single ‘Wish Me Well’ has a more western feel.

Timi Dakolo said “When the desire to be great takes sleep away from your eyes and fear from your mind, you might not know how you will make it or get there. You pick up your bags and move with just your dreams, fears and worry, for the desire to achieve is greater than the fear of the unknown, all loved ones can do is wish you well”

About Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo is an award winning R&B/Soul music artist born on January 20, 1981. He hails from Bayelsa State, Nigeria and grew up in the city of Port-Harcourt, where he started his singing career at age of 12, singing in his church choir. Following his win as West African Idol first and only winner; he released his debut album titled “Beautiful Noise” in 2012, receiving great reviews for the work as well as chart successes. Timi Dakolo released another single after his debut album titled “Great Nation” which many have described as the new National Anthem of Nigeria. He is set to release his second album ‘Love And Consequences’ in 2015.
